On the morning of June 26, 2025, an SF Airlines B757-200F departed from Kunming, China, carrying a full load of cargo to Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, marking the official launch of the "Kunming=Colombo" international cargo route. This is China’s first scheduled all-cargo flight to Sri Lanka and a significant milestone in SF Airlines’ expansion into the South Asian market. The route will enhance SF’s competitiveness in the region and strengthen logistics support for China-Sri Lanka trade, regional economic growth, and the Belt and Road Initiative.
The "Kunming=Colombo" route will operate twice weekly using a B757-200 freighter, providing over 110 tons of round-trip capacity per week. Exports mainly include electronics, machinery parts, textiles, e-commerce parcels, and fresh flowers, while imports focus on Sri Lankan specialty products such as black tea and spices, as well as transshipped electronics from India and seafood from the Maldives.
This new route opens an efficient and stable air logistics channel between China and Sri Lanka, promotes regional economic cooperation, and supports Kunming’s role as a key domestic and international dual-circulation hub. It also helps Yunnan deepen its integration into the Belt and Road Initiative and strengthen its aviation economy.
In recent years, SF Airlines has launched multiple routes to South Asia, serving cities including Delhi, Chennai, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Amritsar in India; Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi in Pakistan; Dhaka in Bangladesh; and Kathmandu in Nepal. With the addition of Colombo, SF Airlines now serves over 10 cities in South Asia, further improving its network layout. The route also enables potential intermodal services via the Ezhou Hub (e.g., Ezhou–Kunming–Colombo), unlocking greater logistics demand and growth potential.
With a fleet of 90 freighters—the largest in Asia—SF Airlines remains committed to providing safe, efficient, and competitive air logistics services. The launch of the "Kunming=Colombo" route demonstrates its ongoing efforts to optimize its global network, support the Belt and Road Initiative, and facilitate international trade. SF Airlines will continue to adapt to market needs and strengthen supply chain integration worldwide.
